The Fairchild Dornier 328JET is a light passenger jet designed and manufactured by Fairchild Dornier. It is a commuter airliner based upon the turboprop-powered Dornier 328 from Dornier Luftfahrt GmbH. It was produced from 1999 to 2006 with a base price of 15 million dollars USD. The aircraft was designed in response to negative feedback regarding the marketability of turboprop aircraft in comparison to turbofan engines. Development began in 1996 and the 328JET’s first flight took place in January of 1998. Though production of the aircraft concluded in 2006, revival of the program could soon occur.

The 328JET is powered by two
Pratt & Whitney PW306B engines that provide 6,050 pounds of force, allowing the aircraft to travel at a top speed of 405 knots (466 mph) for a maximum travel range of 2,001 nautical miles. It has a fuel tank capacity of 1,200 gallons and a fuel economy of 1.91 nautical miles per gallon. The 328JET’s service ceiling is 35,000 feet. The aircraft is crewed by two pilots and a flight attendant and has the capacity for up to 34 passengers. Comparable aircraft include the Bombardier CRJ200 and the Embraer ERJ 135.
Fairchild Dornier, the manufacturer of the 328JET, is an American aircraft and aerospace manufacturing company. The company was founded in 1925 by Sherman Fairchild and was the first American company to produce an aircraft with a fully enclosed cockpit and hydraulic landing gear. The company primarily produced civilian aircraft until World War II, when Fairchild developed training aircraft, transports, and drones for the U.S. war effort. In addition to aircraft, Fairchild produced a variety of missiles and other defense products for the U.S. military. In 1996, Fairchild acquired Dornier and became Fairchild Dornier. The company is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense company.
