The Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia is a twin engine turboprop commuter aircraft designed and produced by Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. Development of the Brasilia followed the success of Embraer’s EMB 110 Bandeirante, as Embraer wanted to produce a transport category airline. This initiative led to the creation of the EMB 120 Araguaia, EMB 123 Tapajos, and EMB 121 Xingu. Ahead of the official launching of these aircraft, the Araguaia’s name was changed to Brasilia. The Brasilia attracted immediate interest from regional airlines, especially many in the United States. The size, speed, and flight ceiling allowed faster and more direct services around North American and Europe, making it a more desirable choice than comparable aircraft.
