The Legacy 600 was launched in 2000 and was initially called the Legacy 2000. Its distinctive characteristics at the time were its added fuel tanks ahead of the wing and in the tail, as well as its drag reduction technology. Its initial testing took place in June of 2000, ahead of its first flight in 2001 and formal introduction in early 2002. As of december 2018, 283 Legacy 600 aircraft have been built. Its primary user is German airline Air Hamburg, and comparable aircraft include the Gulfstream G280, the Bombardier Challenger 350, 650, and 850, and the Dassault Falcon 2000. The newest version, the 650E, was introduced in 2017 as an upgraded model of the Legacy 600.
