The AW129 Mangusta is an attack helicopter that is designed and manufactured by AgustaWestland. The base model, the Agusta A129 Mangusta, began production in 1983 and has had over 60 series models produced since. The A129 also serves as the first attack helicopter that has been both designed and manufactured solely in Europe. During the 1990’s, the Italian Army utilized the A129 Mangusta for a number of combat deployments. Currently, a variant of the helicopter, called the TAI/AgustaWestland T129 ATAK, is under development by Turkish Aerospace Industries for the Turkish Army and other possible customers.
