Lockheed Martin-Boeing joint venture United Launch Alliance (ULA) celebrated a milestone this past week as they successfully launched their 100th mission. The Cape Canaveral-based mission used the Atlas V rocket to drop off Mexico’s next-generation Morelos-3 satellite into orbit. The Atlas V launch vehicle included an Aerojet Rocketdyne RL10C-1 upper stage engine, two AJ-60A solid rocket boosters, six helium pressurization tanks, and a dozen Centaur upper stage thrusters which are used to correct flight path.

NASA Extends Boeing’s ISS Contract to 2028

NASA has decided to extend a contract with Boeing to continue providing key engineering support services, resources, and personnel to its space program for the next five years. The contract, valued at $1.18 billion, will help keep the space station flying through 2020 while also assessing the feasibility of extending the service life of the station’s primary structural elements another 13 years.

Boeing Names Muilenberg as New CEO to Succeed McNerney

Boeing Company has announced that they have chosen a new chief executive officer, Dennis Muilenburg, to succeed McNerney, who is retiring after ten years as CEO. Muilenburg already has a long to-do list of decisions that he hopes will help reshape the world’s largest aircraft maker. Two of the biggest decisions he’ll have to make are right around the corner. He will have to decide whether or not to pursue a USD$10 billion takeover of Sikorsky Aircraft as well as deciding if the company will move forward on a brand new jetliner and either keep or cancel the well-known 747 jumbo, the model nicknamed the “Queen of the Skies.”
