The SJ30-2 can seat up to six passengers and one pilot. One of its defining features is its ‘sea level cabin’ up to 41,000 feet. This means that the cabin is effectively at zero altitude, thanks to its 12 psi pressure differential. This greatly reduces jet lag and fatigue over the course of long journeys. The first flight of the SJ30-2 took place in 1991 at the Paris Air Show, but development was halted when the company lost financial support. The program was eventually saved by Lockheed, who helped mediate a deal between Swearingen and Taiwanese investors, in exchange for Taiwan’s purchase of F-16 fighter jets.

Emivest, the manufacturer of the SJ30-2 was founded in 1959 as Swearingen Aircraft. The company became known as Sino Swearingen in the 1990s and continued to develop aircraft. In 2008, the company was acquired by a Dubai-based investment group who renamed the company Emivest. This venture did not last long, with Emivest filing for bankruptcy in October of 2010. The company was acquired by Metalcraft Technologies, Inc., a supplier of parts for the SJ30-2. In 2011, the company was renamed SyberJet Aircraft, the name under which the company still operates today. The newest model of SJ30, the SJ30x is currently in production. Certification and service entry are expected in 2023.
