The Nimrod MRA4 is a maritime patrol and attack aircraft that was developed by BAE Systems in 2004. The aircraft was designed to replace the Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR2, improving the fleet’s operating life by a number of decades. With an engine configuration featuring Rolls-Royce BR710 turbofans, the flight range would effectively be doubled. The Nimrod MRA4 would have also featured a digital glass cockpit to make operation more efficient and easy, as well as reduce the number of needed crew members. In 2010, the Nimrod MRA4 was cancelled as a part of the Strategic Defense and Security Review.
