The Bell 407 is a multipurpose civil utility helicopter that was designed from the Bell 206L LongRanger. Beginning production in 1995, Bell Helicopter has produced over 1,400 units as of 2017. The Bell 407 has a four-blade rotor that was originally developed for the Model 406, and the blades feature composite construction which increase performance. As compared to the Bell 206L that it was derived from, the Bell 407 has increased cabin space, larger windows, and better performance in hotter temperatures and higher altitudes. Since production began, variants of the 407 have been designed and released, including the armed Bell 407GX.
