The Extra EA 500 is a private single engine high wing turboprop aircraft designed and manufactured by Extra Aircraft. It has been in production since 2004 and has a base price of 1.89 million dollars USD. Unlike most Extra aircraft, the EA 500 is a cross country aircraft with exclusive features such as carbon fiber construction, a pressurized cabin, high strutless wings, and accommodation for up to six passengers. It was introduced as an alternative version of the EA-400, with the piston engine replaced by a Rolls-Royce turboprop engine. Comparable aircraft include the SOCATA TBM 850 and the Pilatus PC-12, though the EA 500’s lower price makes it a more attractive option than these.

The EA 500 is powered by a Rolls Royce 250-B17F2 turboprop engine that provides 450 horsepower allowing the aircraft to travel at a top cruising speed of 226 knots (261 mph) for a maximum range of 1,600 nautical miles. The aircraft has a rate of climb of 1,335 feet per minute and its service ceiling is 25,000 feet. It utilizes a T-tail instead of a regular tail which keeps the elevator surfaces out of the prop wash, thereby minimizing pitch changes resulting from power changes. Despite being manufactured by Extra Aircraft, the EA 500 type certificate is currently held by SST Flugtechnik.

Extra Flugzeugbau, also known as Extra Aircraft, the manufacturer of the Extra EA 500, is a German designer and aircraft manufacturer. The company was founded in 1980 by Walter Extra, an aerobatic pilot who wished to design and produce his own aerobatic aircraft. The company is based at Dinslake airfield in Huenxe, North Rhine Westphalia, Germany. Extra has 75 employees and produces roughly three aircraft per month. In addition to the EA 500, the company produces the EA 230, 260, 300, 330, 330-LT, 400, and 500 aircraft.
